Managers at George Walker Transport have been working with engineers at Sheffield-based CAM Forklift Trucks developing new techniques to improve the crucial role forklifts play in their intensive materials handling operation as part of a productivity and £1/2 million cost reduction platform. Plans to up-date their forklift fleet began back in 2016 with 20 new forklifts and 20 powered pallet trucks that comprise the core of the company’s materials handling taskforce. Cesab electric forklifts are helping to keep the UK’s leading commercial tyre retreader on the road. Bandvulc, which is part of the Continental Tyre Group of Companies and produces around 200,000 commercial retreads each year at its factory in Ivybridge, Devon, has found its most efficient tyre handling solution to date with two new Cesab B315 electric forklifts from JD Plant Services, the independent Cesab dealership for the South West. A North Wales company has held a series of roadshows to officially unveil its new partnership with CAT Lift Trucks. Deeside-based Hannaman Material Handling showcased a range of forklift trucks, access platforms and other equipment at events in Deeside, Wrexham and Knowsley. The company is also currently busy helping to set up the Welsh Rally, which begins next week. Hannaman trucks and platforms are currently being used to set up the giant service park in Deeside. When a Sheffield steel works requested a quote for new side-loaders it seemed a straight forward task to contact suppliers for prices, however, it soon became apparent that none of the mainstream manufacturers had a machine to meet the customer's requirements. Ability contacted Commander based in Wakefield to see if they were still able to build new machines. Ideally, their customer was looking for a nine ton version of their existing VKP machine that Ability had supplied to them over ten years ago. Radiator manufacturer Stelrad handles 50,000 customer deliveries per year from its South Yorkshire distribution centre. To maintain its 99% on-time delivery status, the company requires efficient warehousing. When it expanded its national distribution centre it needed a new MHE solution. “Forkway is our sole supplier for materials handling equipment and has played a significant role in the development of our warehousing and distribution operation,” said Paul Schofield, warehouse and distribution manager for Stelrad.
