Online garden supplies retailer, Primrose, has upgraded the materials handling fleet at its Sharpness, Gloucestershire, high-bay fulfillment centre with a new fleet of Flexi articulated forklift trucks from Narrow Aisle Ltd. Flexi articulated truck technology has been deployed at the Sharpness facility for several years and when the operation was due to be revamped to keep pace with Primrose’s expansion, the company had no hesitation in turning again to Flexis. In 2021, the Hyster-Yale Group proudly celebrates 40 years of manufacturing lift trucks at its plant in Northern Ireland as it announces the expansion of its Craigavon site. The facility, which was officially opened on 7th April 1981, was built and equipped with the most up-to-date robot systems and equipment. Over the years the plant has grown to be the largest-volume forklift plant in the UK, manufacturing thousands of electric, diesel, and LPG forklifts each year for export throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The UK articulated forklift market faces it biggest potential upset in years as a new entrant makes its debut with truck prices that could undercut its three rivals by up to 30%. The company is MiMA, founded in China 27 years ago and offering a broad range of electric handling trucks, tow tractors and specials, like die-handling trucks of up to 30t lift capacity. This last expertise is what particularly attracted Wilmat Ltd, newly appointed UK agent for MiMA, who produce similar specials but only up to 15 t capacity. Ardent Hire Solutions has placed a £26m order with dealer Watling JCB for 525 new Loadall telescopic handlers. Ardent’s order spans the compact 525-60 to the 540-200 models, which have reaches of between six and 20 metres. It has also ordered 25 JCB 3CX backhoe loaders. It follows a deal in 2019 from Ardent for £75m-worth of JCB machines. The new JCB machines all come with JCB LiveLink telematics technology, providing real-time feeds to support Ardent’s ‘Site Manager’ digital platform. Ardent chief financial officer Julian O’Neill said: “Our telehandler fleet is already the largest anywhere in the UK and this substantial investment strengthens our position in the telescopic handler hire sector.”
