Bennie Equipment had been expecting to get a battery powered Loadall telehandler delivered in January but JCB production has been held up. Bennie was one of the very first companies to place an order for the JCB 525-60E Loadall when it was first announced in November. But it has since joined other impatient hire companies in turning to the more readily available Italian-made Faresin machines, sold in the UK by GGR Group. Jungheinrich switches exclusively to green energy

Innovation, Manufacturer
Effective immediately, all Jungheinrich sites in Germany, including the company’s six German production plants, will operate exclusively on green power. The transition of the foreign branches and plants to green electricity will follow. At the same time, Jungheinrich has begun to generate its own solar power and is gradually equipping its sites with photovoltaic systems for this purpose. By switching to renewable electricity, the Group has reduced its yearly greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 15,500 tonnes of CO2 in Germany alone. In doing so, it is taking a further step towards climate neutrality. In the Group strategy it presented last November, Jungheinrich put the topic of sustainability at the centre of its international business activities and set out ambitious goals...

Tax breaks for machinery investments

Tax breaks for machinery investments

Industry
One of the highlights of the 2021 spring budget is an incentive for companies to spend money on new plant and machinery. Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced in his budget statement that, beginning in April 2021, a new super-deduction for companies investing in new equipment over the next two years. This will cut companies’ tax bill by 25p for every pound they invest in new equipment, the chancellor said, meaning that they can reduce their taxable profits by 130% of the cost. This is worth £25bn to companies over the two-year period the super-deduction will be in full effect.     Rob Oliver, chief executive of the Construction Equipment Association, said “The announcement of a ‘super deduction’ for capital investment should stimulate decisions from companies curren...

The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) says that moving away from plastic cards for trained operators to a smart phone application is a ‘game-changer’ for site safety. IPAF’s ePAL is set to be launched in April 2021 – a digital IPAF PAL Card, operator log book and operator safety guides. It will also allow operators to receive the latest IPAF safety information and best practice guidance, and will ultimately allow construction managers to verify an operative’s qualifications, as well as for the operator to log and share their equipment time. It will be available for Apple iOS and Android devices and will be updated with additional features as usage demands and developing technology allows. IPAF’s PAL card (standing for powered access licence) is not actually a l...
