This latest acquisition further strengthens Briggs’s position in the Irish plant hire market following the purchase of Laois Hire in Portlaoise and Balloo Hire Ltd in Dublin earlier in 2021 and builds on the position established through the acquisition of Balloo Hire in Belfast in 2019. Speedy spends £3m on Skyjack lifts

Speedy has added 100 new boom and scissor lifts to its UK fleet as part of its powered access investment strategy. Speedy has spent £3m on new Skyjack equipment, including both articulated and telescopic mobile elevating work platforms. The 100 new additions include the diesel-powered all-terrain SJ46AJ and SJ66T, and the all-electric SJ30ARJE, which have working heights of 15.9, 22.1 and 10.8 metres respectively. Speedy has also taken delivery of more Skyjack SJ6826 and SJ6832 rough terrain scissor lifts, which provide a working height range from 9.75m to 11.6 metres. Speedy Hire has bought another 50 Niftylift hybrid powered boom lifts for its aerial access fleet. The £2m investment follows the launch in November 2020 of Speedy Powered Access, which combines Prolift, Platform Sales & Hire and Lifterz – companies acquired by Speedy since 2017. Speedy Powered Access employs 180 people across 11 service centres in the UK, offering provide hire, sales, training, maintenance and refurbishment services. The hybrid system on the Niftylift boom lifts allows power to be automatically drawn from both the diesel engine and the electric battery pack. Within minutes after the official launch on the 18th November 2020, Bennie Equipment placed an order. The JCB 525-60E has been completely redesigned with new running gear, utilising a 96v lithium-ion battery pack, while dealing out the same performance as it’s diesel powered variant. Ipswich-based Tru Plant has taken delivery of another 30 new JCB Loadall telescopic handlers. The new telehandlers are part of a £16m order for more than 300 JCB machines that Watling JCB has been delivering over the past 18 months. The JCB 540-140 HiViz Loadalls incorporate JCB’s compact Dieselmax 3.0-litre EU Stage V diesel engine, which is reckoned to use 5% less fuel than previous models. Tru Plant has also been buying JCB backhoe loaders, rough terrain forklifts, Teletruks, site dumpers and other telehandler models over the last 18 months.
