The Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA) has launched a new trailblazer apprenticeship scheme for hire controllers. Since the new hire controller trailblazer apprenticeship secured approval from the Institute for Apprenticeships (IfA) in December 2018, the CPA has been working with the Construction Industry Training Board on the details of documentation and assessment. Hire controllers play a key role within plant hire companies and thus the construction industry, co-ordinating the supply of essential equipment. In a major new development for the sector, a Level 3 Lift Truck and Powered Access Engineering Technician apprenticeship standard and end point assessment (EPA) have been approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships & Technical Education. The 36-month course will be recognised by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (I/MechE), the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI). Jungheinrich has launched a new racking spares initiative, with parts now held in the UK. The new announcement will ensure easy access to required racking parts for fast fulfilment of service requests in what is a rapidly growing market. Racking spares now held in the UK include essential components, comprising uprights, beams, horizontal and diagonal bracing, nuts, bolts and more. The company says the speed in which spare parts can be attained will considerably reduce lead times and drive efficiencies, while maintaining and improving SLAs. Half of the vehicles that Kion sells in the U.S. comes from China every year. German-based Kion Group is planning to expand its Summerville, South Carolina factory in an attempt to stray away from a 25 percent tariff the U.S. placed on forklifts imported from China. The Wall Street Journal reports that around half of the vehicles that Kion sells in the U.S. comes from China every year. The company operates two forklift manufacturing facilities in the country. “It is worth exploring ways to expand our production in the U.S. to avoid tariffs,” Kion CFO Anke Groth told CFO Journal.
