New Hyster on show in Valencia

Hyster revealed the first images of its prototype fuel cell-powered laden container handler at the Greenport Congress last Thursday (18th October)

Prior to the event in Valencia, Spain, the zero-emission truck currently in development had only been publicly seen in diagrams and 3D renderings. However in a presentation at the Congress titled Alternative energy sources for mobile plant equipment, Willem Nieuwland, project leader for Hyster Europe, produced the first photograph of the vehicle as well as a short film of the model’s first drive during development.

Fast charging

Powered by a Nuvera fuel cell in combination with a lithium-ion battery, the electric truck has been developed for an end-user at the Port of Los Angeles and is expected to utilize fully integrated wireless fast charging to meet the capabilities required of it.

An energy recovery system from Hyster will be built into the vehicle and is designed to increase uptime and profitability of port applications while also helping to reduce costs associated with charging.

Funding for the project was provided by the California Climate Investments (CCI), a state-wide program designed to fund projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, tackling climate change for the benefit of the environment and health of the general public.
