A Solid Foundation from Combilift

A Solid Foundation from Combilift

General, Manufacturer, Service
When Daniel Soden left school, he was keen to combine college classes with hands-on experience that could lead to concrete career opportunities in the engineering manufacturing sector. The former pupil of The Royal School, Cavan started an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) Traineeship with Combilift, Co Monaghan, the largest global manufacturer of forklifts. The traineeship is run by Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board (CMETB) at Monaghan Institute. The one-year, Level 5 programme is an example of the growing trend towards a work-based learning approach to qualifications. This one involves 11 weeks in Combilift, in blocks of two/three weeks, and 27 weeks in college. Combilift trainees are paid €100 a week for the nine months of the course. Daniel, who hails fro...

A French Connection for Ability

When you're dedicated to making your business a big success, then you never really clock out. That's why Paul Ostcliffe, Managing Director of a local electronics company, called Ability Handling all the way from his holiday home in France! Paul was comparing two quotations he had received for a new forklift truck but both quotations seemed to be a little more expensive than he had hoped for. After some online research and a visit to The Ability Handling website, he decided to get a THIRD quotation from us the team at Ability Handling. The sales team responded to his enquiry the same day; emailing him a brochure for the new Doosan D25GX Plus forklift truck, along with our most competitive quote. Impressed with the quotation, Paul called from France again and spoke to Jim Quinn, a memb...

Forklift prices look set to rise in the United States.

Forklift prices look set to rise in the United States.

Business, Finance, Industry
Speculation is mounting after Crown Equipment Corporation announced it "will implement a price increase effective September 4, 2018". There’s no indication yet of the size of that increase, nor whether it will be uniform across the range. Pending price increases are not unexpected, especially in the wake of last month’s introduction of new tariffs on a range of imports from China, including forklifts and forklift parts. These imposts augment recently imposed tariffs on steel and aluminium imports – raw materials heavily used in forklift manufacture. The major importers of Chinese forklifts are being forced to increase prices, many not able to absorb the full 25% tariff. And while many importers had stocked up ahead of the tariff implementation, inventories are believed to be running ...

Silently, the STILL RX 50 forklift truck enters St Peter’s Basilica through a side entrance – it almost seems to glide across the opulent marble floors. On its way, it passes works of art and tombs, including that of Pope Alexander VII, which dates back to the 17th century. The sight of a STILL forklift truck in one of the world’s most famous churches still comes as a surprise to many. After all, the heavy, bright orange truck does stand out from all the splendour around it. But recently, this has become a more familiar sight, as the truck’s driver, Giovanni, works for the Reverendae Fabrica Sancti Petri, the Fabbrica di San Pietro, also known as the Fabric of St Peter’s. Founded in 1908, it is responsible for the preservation and decoration of the world’s most important Catholic church. ...

The UK food and warehouse/distribution sector has hailed TCM’s best-in class FB 3-wheel electric as a boost to productivity and energy saving. Advocates such as Crucial Sauce, the Birmingham-based manufacturer of over 30 sauces and chutneys up-graded its trucks to the new TCM agile electric forklifts and added extended lift capability to meet their 4.5M racking height. Tahir Amir, Crucial Sauce’s Process Manager, says the electric trucks are ideal for their food manufacturing and distribution operation. “We operate on a compact footprint, so we have 4.5M high racking and narrow aisles. Our new forklifts have much smaller turning circle and extended reach” The...
