Belgium's giant TVH equipment and parts business is in the final stages of an ownership reshuffle. According to a report in De Tijd, the reshuffle sees the Vanhalst family taking full control of the Mateco machinery division, in which it previously held a 50% stake. Meanwhile, the Thermote family has control of the TVH Parts division, with a 60% stake. It is reported that Pascal Vanhalst is working with the Thermotes to offload his family's 40% interest in the parts business. While the major assets have been divided, both families retain their interests in TVH Equipment nv, the Belgian branch of Mateco. The business "where it all started 50 years ago remains in the hands of both families through a joint venture", according to the report. It notes that the business has a strong em...

New manual pallet truck course to tackle workplace injuries

New manual pallet truck course to tackle workplace injuries

Training
RTITB has developed a new training course for manual pallet truck operators to help reduce manual handling injuries in the workplace. Manual handling refers to transporting or supporting a load by hand or bodily force. It includes lifting, putting down, pushing, pulling, carrying, or moving loads, which includes the operation of manual pallet trucks (sometimes known as hand pallet trucks or ‘pump’ trucks). Statistics from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) show that the transportation injury has an above average rate of musculoskeletal injuries, many of which are likely to be linked to manually handling goods and could be avoided with the correct training. “Manual pallet trucks are in common use in warehouses, trailers and loading bays – these small trucks help keep things run...

Narrow Aisle drops LPG lift trucks

Manufacturer
Narrow Aisle Ltd has announced that, as part of its corporate responsibility towards the environment, it will no longer offer LP Gas-powered Flexi models. It is understood that Narrow Aisle is the first manufacturer in its sector to drop LPG-powered articulated trucks from its product portfolio. The company is focusing on the further development and production of battery-powered trucks with emphasis on lithium-ion technology which, Narrow Aisle believe, is ideally suited to the needs of modern, 24/7 logistics and e-fulfilment operations. John Maguire, managing director of Narrow Aisle Ltd, commented: “As a company Narrow Aisle has pledged to operate in the most environmentally responsible way possible. Lithium-ion-powered trucks match the performance of LPG types but without t...
No-Cheat Seat Belts on Forklifts Introduced

No-Cheat Seat Belts on Forklifts Introduced

Industry
No-cheat seat belts on forklifts is a new feature by Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks which may be a game changer in avoiding deaths in potentially tragic forklift truck incidents. According to the latest figures from the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work, tipping accidents are the single most common cause of operator fatalities (42%) among forklift operators. In almost every case, the driver was ‘mousetrapped’ between the truck and the ground, causing massive trauma to the head or upper body. According to Stewart Gosling of Red Diamond Distribution, exclusive importers of Mitsubishi forklift trucks: “These accidents occur because, as a forklift tips over, the operator’s overwhelming instinct is to try and jump clear. Seemingly, no amount of training or experience can overc...

Jungheinrich switches exclusively to green energy

Innovation, Manufacturer
Effective immediately, all Jungheinrich sites in Germany, including the company’s six German production plants, will operate exclusively on green power. The transition of the foreign branches and plants to green electricity will follow. At the same time, Jungheinrich has begun to generate its own solar power and is gradually equipping its sites with photovoltaic systems for this purpose. By switching to renewable electricity, the Group has reduced its yearly greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 15,500 tonnes of CO2 in Germany alone. In doing so, it is taking a further step towards climate neutrality. In the Group strategy it presented last November, Jungheinrich put the topic of sustainability at the centre of its international business activities and set out ambitious goals...
