Port Operations Preparing For Cleaner Future

Port Operations Preparing For Cleaner Future

Handling, Manufacturer
Faced with increasing regulation, many port operators are now looking to achieve zero emissions with their handling equipment. With commonly used equipment, such as Reach Stackers, Empty and Laden Container Handlers, and heavy-duty forklift trucks, traditionally powered by IC (internal combustion) engines, how can ports, and truck manufacturers, prepare for a lower emissions future? From the UK, where the government is investing in technologies to transform the shipping industry into a zero emissions sector, to the state of California, USA, which proposes that all cargo-handling equipment should be zero emission by 2030, ports around the world are demanding lift trucks that can support their environmental goals, while meeting their particular application requirements. One way that ma...

Hyster adopt a new approach to the challenge with updated 8–16-tonne lift-truck series Dusty working conditions are prevalent across the construction materials supply chain and can cause big problems for fork-lift operations. Hyster Europe are taking a fresh approach to these challenges with their updated 8–16-tonne lift-truck series. ‘Whether operations are handling bricks, blocks, aggregates, precast concrete or other building materials, you’ll find tough outdoor conditions where high levels of dust and dirt are the norm,’ said Botros Hanna, industry manager for Hyster Europe. ‘This can impact operators’ comfort levels as well as uptime for lift trucks handling construction materials unless they are properly protected.’ For example, lift-truck filters can quickly become clogged ...

A Flexi update from Narrow Aisle

A Flexi update from Narrow Aisle

General, Handling, Manufacturer
Narrow Aisle’s Flexi LITE articulated lift truck model is now available with an integrated four-stage ‘Quad’ lift mast. As its name suggests, the Flexi LITE was originally designed for applications where trucks have to weigh as little as possible – such as facilities where trucks are required to travel across loading bay dock plates into vehicles or to be moved in goods lifts between floors. But, with the addition of the ultra-low ‘Quad’ mast, the Flexi LITE has become highly suited to the task of stuffing and de-stuffing ISO containers. “The market for materials handling equipment that can unload and load pallets from and to ISO containers is already well established in the USA where virtually all FMCG products are carried in steel sided ‘semi trailers’ and it is growing in the UK,”...

LOLER and the Hand Pallet Truck

LOLER and the Hand Pallet Truck

General, Handling, Service
There has been considerable confusion in the marketplace as to whether low-lift equipment such as a hand pallet truck – which only raises the load sufficiently clear of the floor to enable horizontal movement – is subject to LOLER examination. BITA guidance has always been that this equipment is not carrying out a lifting operation, and is not, therefore, subject to LOLER. The HSE confirms this view and has recently updated its Approved Code of Practice to clarify that LOLER applies to “high-lift pallet trucks, both manual and powered, that have the ability to raise the forks above 300mm”. The approved code of practice can be downloaded free of charge http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/books/l113.htm

Bobcat Celebrates 60 Years with New Compact Telehandler

Euronews, Featured, Handling, Manufacturer
This year Bobcat celebrates the 60th Anniversary of the loader and a sixty year legacy second to none in the worldwide construction equipment market. The story began in 1958, when Melroe Manufacturing Company, the forerunner to Bobcat Company, introduced a compact front-end loader that evolved quickly into the M-400, the world’s first true skid-steer loader.  The M-400 was succeeded by the M-440 and in 1962, Melroe adopted what would become the world famous ‘Bobcat’ brand for the M-440 loader and its success created the global compact equipment industry we know today. In 2000, Bobcat Company purchased Sambron S.A., a long-established French manufacturer of telescopic handlers based at Pont-Château in northwest France. Sambron was one of the founding companies in the telehandler categ...
