The Belgian municipality of Herstal near Liège is a paradise for all shoe lovers: The place is home to the European Distribution Centre for American shoe manufacturer Skechers. It is from this site, that the company is responsible for distributing its sports and casual shoes to the entire European market. Skechers has automated many operations in its 118.000 m2 facility to speed up processes. However, forklifts are still in demand. Some 75 UniCarriers warehouse trucks help to load and unload delivery trucks, ensure that the high-bay warehouse is restocked and assist in picking and preparing shipments for up to 3,500 customer orders a day. The Parisian will lead the Southern European team in continuing the development of the Yale® brand across the region. Every day, five fork lift truck drivers are injured or killed – but a new campaign aims to to stop these tragic accidents happening. The Fork Lift Truck Association has launched its ‘Safetember’ campaign, which will run next month as part of National Fork Lift Safety Month. The theme – ‘Make sure they get home safe’ urges truck operators and their employers to take truck safety seriously. It comes as an estimated 1,300 fork lift truck accidents happen in the UK every year, and five drivers are injured or killed every day. Lisa Ramos is a Safety Ambassador for the FLTA.
